I bought mine at Best Buy and like others have said the only problems are that you have to have a AUX on your radio to hear it unless you use a blue tooth (like I do) and I also cant use it with the Body Glove Case on, not faulting Body Glove for that or Motorola. The car dock is not made for it. Its just as ease to remove the case when I need to use the car dock.

My daughter bought the car dock for me for christmas. I was very excited till i went to use it. I fully understand the issues of the user with the two piece case. First I had to remove the insert for case free use of the mount. Still could not get the phone in, had to cut off the raised tabe on the right on the back of dock. I could get it in then, it would change the phone to car dock mode, but would not charge. Found that the phone with case on it would not go down far enough on the dock USB. Found that the front bottom rail that holds the phone in place was also holding the phone up. With a hot nife I cut the rails down flat from the center of dock to the beginning of were the rails turn up at a 90. That way the up right rail can still hold the phone inplace and not put all the strain on the dock USB. After all that the Car Dock is an absolute 5 star unit. It works great!

My husband bought this device for me for Christmas. I was so thrilled with the but thought ok Ill try it. Ive been using it now for 3 days and love it. Anyone that has a Droid X has to get a car mounting device. I love that I can listen to commerical free music and talk to people hands free. Also, when I use my navigation app, its in perfect view for me to see. Also, you can charge your phone when its mounted.

I love this gadget. I actually got mine from best buy. It does have a charger and audio cable. Came in great for my move from colorado to virginia.

Pros: This makes using this phone in the car so much more user friendly.
Cons: To use with most cases an EASY modification may be necessary.

Okay. I bought this and loved it except that the great hard shell case that I purchased with it didnt fit good.
However, after making the quick and easy modification mentioned by others, all is great!
Dont be scared to make this modification. I used a sharp razor type knife (like an Exacto) and shaved off the raised plastic nub near the USB connection. It took just a minute. This beats returning this mount like others have moaned about and missing out on a great product. My hard shell case fits just right - snug, secure & square.
I recommend you purchase this item & not be too lazy or shy to take a moment to modify if youre going to use a case.

Pros: Very well built, very good suction cup, clean looking, lets face it, its pretty awesome
Cons: Not really cheap, especially since you still have to buy a charger cord

I use this with my Droid X for GPS, as well as Apps for radio scanning and ham radio. It works as it should and is very easy to move. Effectually can convert your Droid X into a 4.3" GPS. Very cool. A little pricey. Worth it, though.

Works just fine and does just what you want. My question is with Motorola. I bought both their Car Dock and Home Dock and am very happy with their ability to suit my needs.BUT.I also bought the Motorola case for my Droid X and lo and behold the Motorola case will not work with either. The Car Dock even has a removable sleeve for just this purpose. What were these engineers thinking when they design an accessory line, model specific, and they are incompatible?

I used to just toss my phone in my console... it has a usb port (my car) well I bought this and love and plugged of course the usb into the back of the cradle - however I just noticed after a few days its not charging shouldnt be the plastic nub as I dont use a case. and I tried another cable but if I plug it directly into the phone it works, its not a voltage problem the cradle doesnt do anything cept transfer power.

Works great if you dont use a case.

Pros: Holds phone great and automatically goes into auto mode when incerted.
Cons: Phone coverings do not adapt well. Kinda big.

I loved this mount, or rather I wanted to love it. It is much bigger than the mount for most full market GPS units but lets face it, this is a phone. Function wise it did its job wonderfully. The problem was even if you remove the extra plate the usb port sticks up too high and the phone does not fit right with any of the cases I tried (4- body glove, silicone, Verizon 2 piece, and Verizon "snap-on"). You would need to fabricate something to make it work. Maybe there is a case out there to modify that will fit, but I did not see it.

If you dont plan on putting a covering on your phone, or someone makes one later that is compatible get this device, it is awesome!

great concept, poor execution

This car mount is the gold standard for how car mounts should work, phone fits, easy phone in and out, easy suction cup on and off, auto switch to car mode, does everything it should and more when docked. When I have to change phones Ill look at the car mount first, to see if it measures up.
The bad:
The mount resonates at cetrain speeds in my car. It is so stiff it shouldnt do this, but it does.
The materiel the nut to tghten the first joint is made of is not UV resistant, and crumbled after just a few weeks of exposure on the windshield. Very anoying, since I travel for work and switch between rental cars constantly, and need this adjustment. Im waiting to see if any more bits break down as it ages.
The interface between the mount and the arm comes apart easier than the phone comes out, so every time I remove the phone I have to remember that its a two-handed operation, or the phone and the phone mount come off the arm instead of the phone coming out of the mount. the last time it happened I dropped the phone and mounting plate as I reached the extent of the power cord, broke the power cord connector, and had to replace the power cord. I would put a screw in it, but I have to take it apart to carry it to the next rental car, and itwould be a real pain.

Would be great if it works with a case on

I bought this, removed the insert and cut the nub off like another reviewer said thinking it would then work with my case, but it still doesnt work with it. I have the case/holder combo from verizon the one that has the textured pattern on the back of the case for gripping purposes. I can get it to sit flush on the connector but it still doesnt make a connection to allow it to charge. So now i am either stuck using it without a case or just using it without power. It does fit nicely onto my existing garmin bean bag mount. I would like ot know what cases work with the nub cut out, because it would have ot be a really thin case.

Ok, but software bug

Pros: Easy to mount. Good suction cup. comes with audio cable. Automatically. puta phone into car dock application.
Cons: Due to a software bug in phone the NAV app randomly changes screen to the screen the DX waa on prior to starting the NAV app. I had a difficult time finding a belt click/holster that would fit into the dock.

Would only recommend after s/w bug is fixed.

Droid x navigation

First of all Im writing this on my droid x with swype :)

As for the navigation unit, it definitely came in useful in my 7 hour drive from ohio to washington dc. I got it for $30 from verizon through a discount. However keep in mind it does not come with a charger. I bought mine at walmart for $15 right before my trip. The navigation works nicely. It came with an audio cord to hook up to your cars sound system but I drive a 98 civic so that didnt come in useful. Nonetheless it served its purpose to hold my phone while I navigated with google maps.

I read the instructions and they say that this will work with the hard case if you take the filler piece out. It will not fit with the hard case. The rep at Verizon tried every one they sold and it still did not fit. I messed up the USB port on my phone trying to make it fit. Now I have to take my 1-week old Droid X back to the store and get it replaced. It is a great idea if it worked with the hard shell case. I am returning this to the store.

I own this window mount for the Droid X, and it works fairly well and does allow it to automatically go into car mode. One thing I did find frustrating was that in the instructions, it shows how to remove the adapter plate that allows you to use a Droid X in a case. I have tried 5 different cases so far (both hard and soft), and they are slim profiled cases to begin with. Not one of them will allow my Droid X to fit in the window mounts cradle no matter what I do. I dont like the idea of having to remove the phone from the case every time I want to place it in the dock. Its a good product, but be careful in what you ultimately expect.

Car Dock does not charge

Ive now had two of these, at a cost of $100 total, both purchased from Verizon stores. Both fail to charge my phone most of the time. Occasionally (very random) it will charge in the dock, but Id say 9 out of 10 times it does not charge "Disconnected, please remove charging cable to save energy" or something like that.

Once in a while it will charge but the icon has no lightening bolt to indicate charging, however, I do not lose power while using it, so that is a different issue.

Whoever engineered this terrible item, should be selling cars or something, the cable works fine if I plug it into the phone, it is only the dock that does not work.

useless in California

Cons: Adhesive lasts 1 week, wont fit with a case

Ive had 3 of these and all of them have failed to work properly. I bought the first as part of the accessory pack when I got my phone. In California you cannot attach anything to the windsheild (mine is too far away to reach conveniently anyway) so I used the plastic disk that glues to your dash. After a week the adhesive failed (yes I used the alcohol wipe before adhesion) and the whole unit dropped to the floor and a piece broke. Verizon replaced it without question. My wife loved it so much she bought one too a few days later. About 2 weeks after I installed the second one, the adhesive failed and the whole unit fell to the floor. My wife says hers is starting to fail too. Its May and not that hot out so I cant blame it on the heat. Its just useless if you dont have a window close enough to stick it on or you live in California where its illegal.

As others pointed out, removing the insert, which is supposed to allow your Droid X to fit the cradle without removing silicon or other protective case, is not manufactured to the correct specs. Does not work. Only way is remove case every time. Also - where cradle slots onto the adjustable mount-not sure why they made this in two pieces - the fit is loose with several mms of play. My Verizon store rep said his was like that too & he figured it was some kind of "safety feature", & refused to take return over 30 days. Worst accessory for a good product. Disappointment: total

Caution.. this mount will not work with any case Ive tried, which was about 3 or so!! it shows in instructions that it could be used with a case, but that is completely false in my experience.
